Nature Adventures in the Saalach Valley
The captivating contrast between the rugged mountains which flank the Saalach Valley and the gentle meadows further below, is a beautiful experience unto itself.
Yet between Weißbach and St. Martin our guests will discover other truly unique natural wonders as well, characterised by wild waters, bizarrely shaped rock formations and cave systems stretching outwards far beneath the Earth’s surface.
At the head of them all is Lamprecht’s Cave, one of the most extensive cave systems in Europe and, with a total length of 35 km, the world’s longest multiple-entrance cave. Cavers big and small can penetrate as much as 600 metres into the mountain – with organised cave tours offered year-round.

The Vorderkaserklamm is also well worth the trip. It is here that the Ödenbach has spent the last some 14,000 years eating away at the rock over a length of 400 metres, cutting itself a path as much as 80 metres deep. 51 footbridges lead visitors through rock formations seemingly plucked from another world. The Lower Kaser Gorge is open for tours from May to October.

Yet another rewarding sight:Seisenberg Gorge Natural Monument. In 1831, woodcutters constructed the first logging path to aid in transporting timber through the 600 metres-long and up to 50 metres-deep gorge. This pathway, known as a Triftsteig, is open from May to October and you are welcome to visit it either on your own, or as part of a guided tour. For a Saalach Valley nature adventure of the coolest kind, we would recommend taking a day tour of the Prax Ice Cave. It takes you deep into the heart of the Loferer Steinberge.
