The Mayor of the Community of Weissbach and the Austrian Alpine Association.

Weissbach, 16.04.2007

Weissbach is a small village in the Salzburg mountains, surrounded by imposing rock faces that attract mountaineers. 12 different climbing areas, featuring around 600 routes and wide ranges of difficulty, provide the ideal setting for each and every climber.

All climbing areas are easy to reach from town. In the town itself, you will find a Climbing Garden run by the Austrian Alpine Association, offering shorter ascents and slightly easier routes. And with its almost perfect safety features, it is an ideal climbing area for beginners and families.

The other climbing areas promise something exciting for every single climber. This includes countless rock-climbing routes with all levels of difficulty, along with Alpine-style tours involving fixed ropes of various lengths.

Most access routes are also child-friendly, with parking close to the climbing areas. Becoming ever more popular, you will also find ample opportunities for bouldering, close to the Ferienwiese holiday camp in particular. Two sports stores, offering a broad selection of sporting goods, are located in Saalfelden and Zell am See. If you happen to encounter a rainy day, you might wish to switch your plans to the indoor climbing centre in town, or take advantage of the broad range of other recreational opportunities available in the region.

For self-caterers and campers, the Hohenwarter department store & bakery in town has everything you need, while there is also a cosy café serving home-made cakes and other small snacks. In the town’s inns and restaurants, you can wind down your full day of climbing over a selection of delicious traditional dishes from the region.

When you are ready for a day off or a family outing, Weissbach and its neighbouring communities have so much to offer.

May through September presents ideal climbing conditions, though our region also has no shortage of attractions during the winter months as well. There are numerous opportunities for ice climbing, very beautiful routes for ski tourers with some truly magnificent downhill stretches, along with some of Austria’s most beautiful ski areas located in the immediate area.
