Review of the E-Bike Camp 2019:
Mountains, bikes and colourful pictures. The 1st e-bike camp in the Salzburger Saalachtal powered by eBike rent brought active nature lovers of various ages together between the 22nd and 24th of June to try out electric bikes and head for the heights. In the process a lot of fun was had by all. Alongside the opening culinary evening an unexpected picnic in the Almenwelt Lofer was the greatest surprise of the weekend.
As dark clouds drew in over the Salzburger Saalachtal on Friday afternoon, the banquet which was to take place on the alm was set up quickly in the Vorderkaser Jausenstation instead. There, the professionals from the “Stoaberg Grillschule” provided for many contented faces with a delicious BBQ. Beforehand, the participants had visited the Lamprecht's Cave and were suitably hungry. The camp began on Saturday with an introduction to riding technique. After the rental e-bikes had been handed out and an explanation given as to how to use them, there were tips about riding around curves and descents as well as exercises over bumps and small obstacles. Shortly afterwards, the guides led the first easy tour to the Gasthaus Krepper where the landlord was waiting with “gröstl” (grilled potatoes with ham and egg); farmhouse bread and a legendary “kaiserschmarrn” (a shredded pancake). Thanks to the motors and batteries it was easy enough to ascend to Mayrberg even with full stomachs. The e-bikers were rewarded at the Top Spot Obermayrberg with a view over the villages of the Salzburger Saalachtal down below.
Even though the mountain fires could hardly been seen due to the clouds, nothing could stop the camp participants celebrating the summer solstice, sitting on the terraces of the various inns with the musicians from local music groups until late evening.
Sunday morning finished successfully with between 800 – 1100 metres of ascent over 35 to 40 kilometres on two different routes with fully-charged batteries. The leisure cyclists were delighted by a surprise in the form of a picnic with local products in the Almenwelt Lofer. And so the last metres of ascent were mastered in turbo mode after the refreshments. Then it was time to race back to the valley where the participants of the 1st e-bike camp in the Salzburger Saalachtal exchanged phone numbers over lunch and promised to come back again.
