Canoe Slalom and German Championship
25th - 27th May 2017: The canoe season this year begins traditionally with the canoe slalom rankings race in the Lofer gorge. On Friday and Saturday the top 200 slalom canoeists of the German Canoe Association will compete in two runs on the difficult natural course. At the same time the German championship in white water racing takes place in Unken with participants from the Bavarian Canoe Association. In this championship, competitors must compete in two disciplines: the "Sprint" in which speed is especially important and the "Classic" discipline which tests the stamina of the canoeists with a journey time of around 20 minutes.
Stoabergmarsch - 24h hike
Stoabergmarsch takes place from the 24th to 25th June 2017 - a 24 hour hike through the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge. Last year the Salzburger Saalachtal was both the start and finish for the 24 hour mountain tour: this year it begins in Saalfelden and ends in Waidring. Participants are challenged by a distance of around 50 km and a total difference in altitude of 4600 m. The unique panoramic views from the peak; the fantastic evening atmosphere on the mountain and hiking through the darkness of the night are the things which previous participants in the Stoabergmarsch say they will never forget. Furthermore there is a very special sense of cameraderie.

Here, the Loferer Farmer Troopers mingle with the Lofer Town Guard; the members of the traditional costume association D´Stoaberger mix with the women in tradtional dress who wear wonderful old, hand-made dresses for this occasion. The Bürgermusik Lofer provides the musical accompaniment for the procession.
