Climbing in the Steinberge Mountain Sport Area

Total Concentration...

... just concentrate on the next move, press the feet one last time against the rockface, clip on the quickdraw, attach the rope and you've done it!  This is the thought process when sport-climbing.  The feeling of achievement is enormous when you finally complete the route you planned. On arrival at the summit or in safe terrain, let your gaze roam around the mountain landscape and enjoy your success.

Climbing Eldorado Loferer Steinberge

The Schmidt-Zabierow Hut at 1966 m in the Loferer Steinberge is the ideal starting point for the sport of climbing in the Salzburger Saalachtal! Due to the manageable number of visitors the unspoiled character of the area is maintained and holiday guests can pursue their favourite sport individually.

Climbing in the Steinberge

Sunny rockfaces, well-secured climbing routes and a balanced range of difficulty near the Schmidt-Zabierow Hut.

In the last 10 years, around 50 climbing routes of all difficulties (from 3 to 9) and lengths (20 m to 500 m) have been set up.  Glorious, wild terrain around the hut is perfect for a climbing course or a climbing weekend. The Hut Wall, the East Wall of the Breithorn, is particularly well-loved. On routes such as Hallodri, Flozirkus, Inflagranti, Schnitzel-Gyros or the Linker Zustieg, climbers find routes well-secured with bolt anchors from 23 to 300 m long with difficulties from 4+ to 9-.

Via Ferrata in the Steinberge

The climbing school is situated only five minutes below the Schmidt-Zabierow hut, an ideal practice area for Via Ferrata fans.  Via Ferratas from 3 to 80 m long with difficulties from A to E have been established. This arena is ideal preparation for the longer via ferratas of Nackter and Wilder Hund.

Via Ferrata Nackter Hund

This high-alpine climb leads up to the 2504 m Mitterhorn, the second highest peak of the Loferer Steinberge. From the summit you can see the main ridge of the Hohe Tauern and the Berchtesgadener mountains. (Via Ferrata 300 m ascent, difficulty C/D)

Via Ferrata Wilder Hund

This climb has recently been built by the Alpinskischule Markus Hirnböck. With a difficulty of D, the climb provides a fantastic extra reason to go climbing in the Loferer Steinberge.

Via Ferrata climbing equipment can be hired at the Schmidt-Zabierow Hut – booking by telephone in advance.
