1 Almenwelt Lofer

Everyone should pay at least one visit to the Almenwelt Lofer during their holiday. Travel comfortably up the mountain in the Almbahn gondola; discover 7 circular hikes with 4 panorama peaks; have fun in the new adventure playground for large and small and finally try out Stand-Up-Paddling (SUP) on the reservoir. What more could you possibly want? 

Those who want to  experience the power of water up-close must visit the adventure trail „Auf die Alm“ (On the Alm). The Rote Marmorsee (Red Marble Lake) at Schönbühel is one of the finest places to enjoy the sunset. At ca. 1600 m, this new Top Spot is easily reached via the Fairy Tale Hiking Trail Nr. 4.


2 Discover the Mountains by E-Mountain Bike

Around 100 rental e-bikes and 21 charging stations distributed across the entire region; easy bike transport with the cable-car of the Almenwelt Lofer; guided bike tours and above all, 480 km of signposted cycling trails contribute to the excellent facilities. All of this ensures that the Salzburger Saalachtal is an absolute paradise for the e-mountain biker. With the electric bike, even average sportspeople can reach places in the mountains which in the past could only be reached by top athletes.


3 Via Ferrata in the Mountain Climbers' Village Weißbach

The three via ferratas in Weißbach bei Lofer are named, „Zahme Gams“, „Weiße-Gams“ and „Wilde Gams“ - in English „Tame Chamois“, „White Chamois“ and „Wild Chamois“ respectively.  Each of these is challenging in its own right and provides an ideal playground for enthusiastic climbers of all abilities.  The „Wilde Gams“ is well-known as an extreme via ferrata far beyond the local area and is only suitable for very good climbers. Likewise, experience is also required for the slightly less difficult „Weiße-Gams“. The „Zahme Gams“ is ideal for families and children. This fantastic via ferrata is perfect for beginners and  reveals how fascinating this sport can be for young and old alike.


4 The Saalachtaler Forces of Nature

At the foot of the Loferer- and the Leoganger- Steinberge and in the off-shoots of the Steinernes Meer, nature has created natural monuments over the course of time. The beauty and the incredible power of these natural wonders can hardly be surpassed and together they make up the Saalachtaler Forces of Nature.

In the last ice age, the Ödenbach between St. Martin and Weißbach carved deep into the rock  creating the 400 m long and 80 m deep Vorderkaserklamm. The exciting path through this natural spectacle passes over 51 walkways and 35 stairways. The natural bathing area Vorderkaser is situated in front of the gorge. This is an ideal destination for a family excursion with its iridescent bathing ponds and many barbecue sites.

The Lamprechtshöhle is one of the largest caves in Europe and with its 51 km expanse is the largest passage cave in the world. One part of the cave is open to the public and easily accessed. Here you can wander around 700 metres inside the mountain. This is an unforgettable experience even in bad weather.

In the same way, the Seisenbergklamm in Weißbach bei Lofer came into being at the end of the last ice age. Due to its position at the foot of the „Naturpark Weißbach“, a visit to the gorge, which lasts approximately 1 hour, is an ideal starting point for several hikes.  Guided tours with the Gorge Spirit are an unforgettable experience, particularly for families with children.

The Saalachtal Forces of Nature are only 2 km apart from each other and guarantee adventure, fun and excitement for the whole family. They can be reached easily via the Bundesstraße 311, the Tauern Cycle Path and the ALMErlebnisBus.


5 The Unkener Heutal

Discover the picturesque surroundings of Heutal on well-prepared paths according to your mood or claim victory over a mountain summit. The hike to the Sonntagshorn is an unforgettable experience for young and old alike. The fantastic panorama more than makes up for the effort of the ascent. After your hike, you can dip your feet into the cool water of the Fischbach waterfall; surround yourself by the sounds of the water or simply enjoy the beauty of this natural element as it flows and crashes past.


6 Wander Golf in Lofer and St. Martin

Wander Golf? Never heard of it? In that case, you should definitely try it -fun for the whole family. There are a total of 18 wander golf holes in the valley between St. Martin and Lofer waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.  If the large circuit is too far, the game can also be played over 9 holes. As you wish! Clubs and balls are available free of charge in the Tourist Office and in most guesthouses and restaurants.


7 The Naturpark Weißbach

The Naturpark Weißbach couldn't be more varied and exciting thanks to the imposing Seisenbergklamm, the Gehardstein, the Hochkranz, the wonderful Hintertal and the many rolling alms. There is something for everyone here whether you are looking for white water or prefer to run barefoot over alpine pastures or sign your names in a summit book on one of the many peaks.

This wonderful Naturpark just above the village of Weißbach is guaranteed to be worth a visit and is easily reached via the Bundesstraße 311, the Tauern Cycle Path or via the ALMErlebnisBus from Weißbach or Berchtesgaden. 


8 The Summer Children's Programme

Every summer the Salzburger Saalachtal revolves around children and their fun! From treasure hunts,  to a Native American festival to climbing – there is guaranteed to be something for every taste in our „Käserasi“ children's programme. After all, the summer holidays should be unforgettable. Have you ever tried to bake your own bread; been canyoning in the Seisenbergklamm or met new friends at a games' evening? No? Then the children's programme from the beginning of July to the beginning of September is ideal for you.


9 In the White-Water of the Saalach

The rapids and whirlpools of the Saalach in the Salzburger Saalachtal are world-famous and make this section of the river one of the best and most notorious white-water stretches in the world. It isn't just professionals who can experience an unforgettable adventure here.  Even children and families will have all sorts of amazing experiences in the Saalach. Special beginner and family rafting tours introduce you slowly  and safely with expert  instruction to the world of „White Water“. If you are really bitten by the white water bug, then you will definitely want to come back. 


10 The Loferer Steinberge

Anyone who has ever visited the Salzburger Saalachtal knows the imposing and impressive view up to the Loferer Steinberge. In fact, anyone with sufficient mountain experience and fitness, really must visit these mountains at least once. A particularly beautiful and rewarding destination is the Schmidt-Zabierow Hut at just under 2000 metres above sea-level on the edge of the Großer WehrGrube. A climbing practice area is situated directly next to the hut where you can let off steam.
