Hiking village Unken

Discover the “magic of walking”

In the Salzburger Saalachtal you will experience nature in its most beautiful and diverse forms. Sometimes exciting and eventful; sometimes calm and relaxing. The certified Hiking Village Unken, where farming culture and untouched nature meet, exemplifies this.

The mountains are calling …

How much of a spirit of discovery is hiding in you? In the Hiking Village Unken the bold rocky peaks, original mountain forests and white water don’t reveal themselves straightaway, but simply wait for you to discover them. So on the village circuit you will receive your first impressions of  hidden nature such as the natural monument Staubfall“ with its roaring waterfall plunging 200 metres into the depths; the “Kalvarienberg”; the “Löwenquelle” or the  “ Wetterkreuz”. The most important starting point for your hiking experiences is the central hiking starting point in the village centre in Unken. From there you can go on a refreshing hike to the Innersbachklamm, conquer the summit of the  Sonntagshorns or treat yourself to wonderfully fragrant pan of “Kaiserschmarrn” after a leisurely stroll to the Wildalm. Unken is one of the few places which has been awarded the Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality – a much sought-after award which is only granted when special criteria are met (including particularly attractive hiking paths, the highest quality standards of infrastructure, hiking hosts and services). Are you ready to plan your first hike? There are a total of five certified hiking trails waiting for you in the Hiking Village of Unken…

It doesn’t matter whether the first spring flowers are beginning to emerge; the warm sunshine is inviting you to bathe or autumn is turning the leaves red – Unken has its own special charm in every season. Something you mustn’t miss during your hiking holiday is a trip out to the Top Spot Unkenberger Mähder – Here you can enjoy a wonderful panorama of Unken and the surrounding mountain world in peace, away from the hustle and bustle. Another insider tip, for those early birds among you, is a sunrise hike to the Dietrichshorn. After a straightforward two-hour ascent, enjoy the first sunrays of the day and the morning silence from the little bench on the summit.

You’ll have company on all of your tours around the Hiking Village – Luxi the Hiking Lynx, the helpful hiking mascot, who provides you with all kinds of interesting facts and draws your attention to particularly beautiful views by way of frequent information boards.

If your feet should start to hurt after a strenuous tour or you suffer other little aches and pains, you can seek help from nature’s pharmacy at the TEH Naturwerken
