Loferer Steinberge

The Schmidt-Zabierow Hut

The Loferer Steinberge‚ or the Stoaberg‘, as the locals call them, are an absolute top place for passionate hikers. They are one of the small mountain ranges in the Alps but nevertheless demand some physical fitness as 1200 to 1900 metres must be conquered to reach the summits.  The highest peak on the Stoaberg is the Große Ochsenhorn at 2513 m above sea level.

The Schmidt-Zabierow Hut, which is situatied at 1966 m above sea level, is the only mountain refuge in the Loferer Steinberge. It can be reached from the Loferer Hochtal via a hike of around 3 hours. The path is good to walk but endurance is required.

Using the Schmidt-Zabierow Hut as base camp, the surrounding mountain peaks can be reached in a hiking time of around 2.5 hours.

5 minutes below the hut climbers will find a rock-climbing school where they can train for the newly established via ferrata, Nackter Hund and Wilder Hund.  The East Wall of the Breithorn, the Hut Wall, is a much-loved stomping ground for ambitious climbers.
