ICE STOCK SHOOTING

THE TRADITIONAL WINTER SPORT

Eisstockschießen, or ice stock shooting, is a traditional popular sport in the Alps which has similarities to curling.  Despite, or perhaps because of its long history, ice stock shooting is loved by young and old alike in the Salzburger Saalachtal.

The aim of ice stock shooting, which is mainly played as a team sport, is to shoot the stock as close to the target (the so-called „Hase“ or „Daube“) as possible. There are clubs in all four villages of the Salzburger Saalachtal which practise the sport during weekly training sessions or in competitions. The sport is played on tarmac during the summer.
