Every separate region has its own customs and traditions. These have great cultural value and are practised in many different fields. From differing local costumes and dialects, to festivals and handicrafts and knowledge, It is important to continue these customs as an expression of our mindset. These traditions are cared for and passed on from generation to generation with much love and time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The people of the Salzburger Saalachtal are deeply-rooted in their region. Tradition isn\u2019t just a thing of the past; it is a part of daily life and local culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"alte-traditionen-zum-rachn-geh\">Old Traditions\u2026\u201cGo Smoking\u201c<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A very old custom which is still practised in many farmhouses in the Salzburger Saalachtal is \u201eRachn geh\u201c. On the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lofer.com\/en\/rauchnaechte\">\u201eSmoke Nights\u201c<\/a> <\/strong>of Christmas Eve, New Year\u2019s Eve and the Epiphany a smoking pan is filled with incense and herbs and the smoke is used to purify the home. The previous year is brought to a close and the inhabitants prepare for the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"selten-und-einzigartig-die-tresterer-im-salzburger-saalachtal\">Rare and Unique\u2026The Tresterer in the Salzburger Saalachtal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201e Perchtenlauf\u201c is one of the oldest folk traditions in Salzburger Land. On the Feast of the Epiphany they make their way from farmhouse to farmhouse to bring luck and blessings for the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"sehenswertes-beim-salzburger-bauernherbst\">Well Worth Seeing\u2026. The Salzburger Harvest Festival<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another tradition worth seeing is the home-coming parade of the cattle at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lofer.com\/en\/salzburger-saalachtal\/traditions-and-customs\/harvest-festival\" type=\"URL\" id=\"https:\/\/www.lofer.com\/en\/salzburger-saalachtal\/traditions-and-customs\/harvest-festival\/\">Harvest Festival<\/a><\/strong>. The heads of the cows are decorated with many flowers and they wear their cow-bells with pride \u2013 the animals are \u201eaufgekranzt\u201c or crowned, as we say colloquially. Special delicacies from Pinzgau are served at this time of year. There are demonstrations by children\u2019s groups from the traditional costume associations \u201e D\u00b4Stoaberger\u201c and \u201eD`Saalachtaler\u201c, Schnalzer groups and there are also special craft markets to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"angreifbare-geschichte-das-kalchofengut\">Tangible History\u2026 The Kalchofengut<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone who would like to find out more about the history of the Salzburger Saalachtal should pay a visit to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lofer.com\/en\/kalchofengut\">Kalchofengut<\/a><\/strong>, an old farmhouse dating from the 13th Century, which has been turned into a museum of local traditions and culture. &nbsp;Here visitors can marvel at old forms of fencing, a kitchen range and parlour, traditional furnishings and sculptures of saints as well as historic objects from livestock and arable farming, alpine farming and the timber industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p
