There is <\/strong>barely<\/strong> a single peak in the Salzburger Saalachtal which Georg Schmuck hasn’t conquered. At 84 years old, \u201cKnappen-Schorsch\u201c from Lofer still <\/strong>radiates<\/strong> a boundless zest for life \u2013 and a bit of roguishness. We <\/strong>settle<\/strong> down next to him on his favourite little bench with a view of the Lofer valley basin and chat about his life and his homeland.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Georg Schmuck makes himself comfortable on his bench in Scheffsnoth, in the golden autumn light which gives the Lofer valley a fairy-tale glow. The majestic Loferer Steinberge form a breathtaking panorama in front of him. Georg smiles contentedly and strokes the weather-beaten wood. \u201cThis here is my favourite little bench\u201c, says the 84-year-old. \u201cFirstly, because I put it here myself and secondly because I’ve been out and about in this area since I was tiny. There used to be a stone wall across here\u201c, he says and points out a place not far from the bench, \u201cand over there, I shot my first stag. That was in 1967.\u201c George laughs, \u201cThat’s a little while ago now.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n
