Weissbach
Mountain Climbers’ Village and Naturpark between Mighty Peaks
Weißbach bei Lofer is the Mountain Climbers’ village in the Salzburger Saalachtal. Here everything revolves around lofty heights, summit crosses and ascents up there. At the same time there is a pretty village centre surrounded by the offshoots of the Steinernes Meer and the Leoganger and Loferer Steinberge with all the amenities you expect from a good “Base Camp“: cosy and familial accommodation, inviting restaurants and genuine, warm people. The many ski touring routes contribute to the superb reputation of the village in winter. In the summer months climbers and mountain climbers populate the many climbing routes, celebrate peak victories and test themselves to their limits on the four via ferrata (Gams Kitz, Zahme Gams, Weiße Gams, Wilde Gams). Anyone interested in an in-depth look at the flora and fauna of the local alm habitat and a stroll through one of the most beautiful nature parks in Austria should pay a visit to the Naturpark Zentrum Weißbach and join one of their interesting guided walks. On the traditionally cultivated alpine pastures and the diverse mountain hayfields rare plants sprout; the Apollo butterfly, which is seriously endangered in Europe, flies over the flower meadows and deer find their home in the dense mixed mountain forests. Even mountain bikers and e-mountain bikers are very welcome guests here: one of the aims of Austrian nature parks is to achieve the equality of nature conservation, relaxation, education and regional development. The fascination and power of white water can be seen and experienced a little further down in the valley in the Seisenbergklamm either hiking or canyoning. The gorge has been accessible since 1831 and has never lost its allure.
