Vorderkaserklamm gorge –
Hike in the nature reserve
The natural monument of rock & water
The Vorderkaserklamm gorge, located between St. Martin and Weißbach, was declared a natural monument in 1977 and first opened to visitors in 1882. Between 12,000 and 14,000 years ago, when the Ice Age glaciers had melted, the Ödenbach stream began to carve its way into the hard rock. Around six millimeters per year. Today, the gorge is already 400 meters long, 80 meters deep, up to six meters wide at the top and 80 centimeters narrow at the bottom. The path through the gorge, which is also exciting for children, leads over 51 footbridges and 35 steps with a total of 373 steps.
