Ice stock shooting
The Traditional Winter Sport
Eisstockschießen, or ice stock shooting, is a traditional popular sport in the Alps which has similarities to curling. Despite, or perhaps because of its long history, ice stock shooting is loved by young and old alike in the Salzburger Saalachtal.
The aim of ice stock shooting, which is mainly played as a team sport, is to shoot the stock as close to the target (the so-called „Hase“ or „Daube“) as possible.
There are clubs in all four villages of the Salzburger Saalachtal which practise the sport during weekly training sessions or in competitions. The sport is played on tarmac during the summer.
Our guests can also try the sport free of charge at one of our sessions for guests in St. Martin (every Monday at 8 pm) or in Weißbach (every Thursday at 4 pm). You can borrow the stocks free of charge on site so the fun can begin straightaway. Groups can also play on other days of the week – get in touch with the Tourist Office.
