On a ski tour in the Salzburger Saalachtal

ON A DIFFERENT TRACK

In recent years ski touring has developed into a trend sport. More and more people are deciding to ski off the beaten track to carve their own tracks in the snow and to get back to skiing’s original roots.

The special attraction of ski touring is that the ski tourer can take in the unspoilt nature during the ascent and enjoy each moment. Once the destination has been reached, the skis and skins are taken off, the bindings altered and the boots laced-up tighter. „Click-clack“, in the binding and it is time for the descent through the finest powder – an indescrible feeling of having the snow-covered slopes to yourself as you carve short turns in the powder.

The Saalachtal is one of the most beautiful areas for ski touring in Salzburger Land. Beginners can try a tour to the Wildalm in the Unkener Heutal or the Almenwelt Lofer

The ascent follows the left-side of the piste and is only permitted during the day. Intermediates can attempt the tours to the Hochalm and the Sontagshorn in Unken while experts will be well-challenged by the Skihörndl in the Loferer Steinberge as well as the Seehorn or the Kammerlinghorn in the Mountain Climbers’ Village Weißbach.

Please be aware that ski-touring off-piste should only be attempted with sufficient alpine experience and the right equipment. Therefore we recommend that beginners contact one of our local mountain guides.
