“We have arrived in life”

Here to stay

It all began with a spark in a ski hall in the Netherlands. The love grew, there was more and more snow – and most importantly of all, it was real. Eveline and Rob Schellevis now live with their children right next to the ski lift in Lofer.

The graduate human resources manager, Eveline, worked all over Europe and America for a large US company. Rob, the administration and construction lawyer advised large municipalities in Holland. They met on an artificial snow slope, fell in love and discovered: “Success is not the most important thing!“ They acquired an ancient farmhouse in Hoevelaken, a small village, ten kilometres away from the medieval canal town of Amersfoort. However, they only got off the professional “hamster wheel“ in Austria: “We particularly liked the country. We were looking for a beautiful property“, say the couple, who found “the perfect home“ one day – a house with a large garden in Lofer.

They moved to the Salzburger Saalachtal in 2006 with their children Elvira, 7, and Reini, 4. Here they let out holiday flats in their Landhaus Sonnheim Appartments and have also conquered a new business niche: they embroider logos for jackets, caps and much more. Customers are innkeepers, businesses, clubs and private individuals. Rob completes the design on the computer then Eveline carries out the computer-controlled embroidery process. She is also a breeder for the “Association for the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog in Austria“ (VSSÖ) If the quality of a litter has to be checked, her area of responsibility stretches from the Bregenzer to the Böhmerwald. When needed, she travels across the whole continent for the mating of the mountain dogs. In the region, people sometimes bring her a stray dog so that she can locate the microchip under the skin and find out the origin of the dog via the international database. Meanwhile, Rob, her husband, is passionate about repairing old jukeboxes. Their son is developing team spirit in the local football team and their daughter is a ski instructor in the Almenwelt Lofer. The family love energy places in the summer such as the Bräugföllalm as well as waking up in the Schmidt-Zabierow Hut in the Loferer Steinberge, “when the golden sun rises“. From Holland the Schellevis miss “the many restaurants which together offer an unbelievable variety of dishes“. From Lofer they wish for “a future concept for the revival and preservation of this wonderful, historic place“. “We want to be here and we want to stay here“, say the 56-year olds, smiling.

Winter fun for the whole family
