Lofer

Austria’s Most Beautiful Hiking and skiing Alm

If you stroll through the historical centre of Lofer you would be forgiven for thinking you were on a film set. In fact it wasn’t just Mozart who stopped here on his travels – Clint Eastwood, was thrilled by the proud buildings, the inviting restaurants, cosy cafés and the massive backdrop of the Loferer Steinberge, when his first big Hollywood film in the 60s brought him to the Salzburger Saalachtal. How much would he have loved the chocolate creations of Confiserie Berger? However the company was first founded in 1994 and has delighted the people of Pinzgau and much further afield ever since. To this day Lofer is a popular holiday destination where you can find peace and quiet as well as follow your sporting passions. One of the main players is most definitely the Almenwelt Lofer. Skiers have fun in winter in the family ski area and spend magnificent days in the mountains; in summer one of the most beautiful hiking areas in the Alps opens up. Whether you choose to travel comfortably with the cable-car; tackle the trails on foot or conquer otherwise inaccessible peaks on an e-mountain bike – a visit up here is always a special experience. Down in the valley, where the raging waters of the Saalach thunder through the rapids of the Teufelsschlucht, water sports enthusiasts find a true paradise for kayaking, rafting and canyoning. Even professionals treasure the conditions here and compete once a year in the Lofer Rodeo watched by thousands of spectators.
